The large-area blackbody calibration scheme can be utilized both for in-field calibration of the system—thereby directly determining its radiometric responsivity—and for monitoring and correcting changes in the system's radiometric response characteristics by comparing calibration results obtained in the laboratory with those obtained in the field.As the standard instrument for calibrating infrared imaging systems, the blackbody radiation source is the key to fully harnessing the potential of infrared imaging technology; its inherent performance determines the quantitative precision of the imaging system. A high-performance blackbody can significantly expand both the breadth and depth of an infrared imaging system's applications—for instance, a blackbody with high temperature accuracy enables the calibration of highly sensitive infrared imaging systems, thereby substantially enhancing their detection capabilities.
The definition of a blackbody:an object that can absorb all external radiation energy and radiate all of its own energy.
The main technical indicators of blackbody: emissivity of blackbody, diameter of blackbody cavity, temperature uniformity and uncertainty of radiation temperature. Therefore, in order to ensure the product quality of blackbody, blackbody is usually designed according to temperature segments. Usually, the blackbody we refer to are artificial black body. The emissivity of artificial blackbody is close to 1, but not equal to 1.
The main function of a blackbody is to produce standard radiation at a certain temperature. Therefore, it is mainly used to calibrate various radiation thermometers in temperature measurement, such as optical pyrometers, infrared thermometers, infrared thermal imagers, etc.

The comparison method is usually used for the calibration and verification of radiation thermometers, that is, through a high-stability radiation source (usually a black body radiation source) and other supporting equipment, the temperature reproduced by the standard instrument is compared with the temperature reproduced by the radiation thermometer under test to determine whether it is qualified or give a calibration result.
